On October 18, ’23 there was another reason to celebrate: voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl GmbH opened the world’s most modern special steel plant in Kapfenberg!
The plant in Styria is a benchmark for all other stainless steel plants in the world. For the first time in 40 years, a new stainless steel plant opens in Europe. This plant represents a technological milestone in the production of future-oriented high-performance materials for the international automotive, energy and aviation industries. When fully operational, the new facilities will be able to produce 205,000 tons of special steels per year.

The electric arc used is powered 100 percent by renewable energy. Closed water cooling circuits reduce heat consumption by 90 percent per year. The heat is not only used in the plant itself, but is also made available to Stadtwerke Kapfenberg for district heating.

We are delighted to have been able to take part in this event. We are all the more pleased that we were able to make a valuable contribution to this success with our Level 2 intralogistics and production control systems for the melting and casting sector.
