Container tracking and radio data transmission system at Stapelkai in the port of Cologne-Niehl
Five reach stackers and three container crane systems operate at the 200,000 m² container handling facility. In addition to ship loading, these are also used for rail and truck loading. ABF was commissioned as general contractor to equip the entire site with a WLAN data radio system and all vehicles and cranes with a position detection system.
Project scope
- Position detection of the 3 container cranes using the robust DGPS/LPR® solution from our partner Symeo with an availability of >99%. Absolute encoders were retrofitted to record the lifting heights on the cranes.
- 5 reachstackers were also equipped with DGPS and additional sensors to ensure a high level of positional reliability even in the shadowed areas.
- Installation of automatic load change detection on all cranes and reach stackers.
- Installation of a highly available and comprehensive (approx. 200,000 m²) WLAN data radio system in accordance with the IEEE 802.11 standard
- Delivery of mobile terminal equipment for order processing in the container area
