Schütz GmbH, based in Germany and active in the steel processing industry, commissioned ABF to create a warehouse management and crane control system in an automated warehouse.
Advantages of the introduction
- Traceable internal transport logistics and continuous material tracking
- Order-managed material transportation
- Reduction of the time-consuming search for the right coil
- Optimized use of existing storage capacities and resulting higher storage density
- Optimization of crane travel paths
- Automatic stock movements
Project scope
The automated storage area contains steel coils weighing up to 35 tons, all of which have different external diameters of between 1 m and 2.5 m and are stored in up to 3 layers.
Conventional stacking without taking coil properties into account is not possible due to the different dimensions of the goods. Our team of highly qualified software developers has therefore developed an algorithm that calculates an optimum storage location for the next coil to be stored. The corresponding travel order is then transferred to the crane for automatic execution. In this way, damage caused by rolling or deformation due to the storage of heavy coils on light coils can be avoided and the storage density can be kept high.
The warehouse management system (WMS) OneBase®MFT Intralogistiksuite takes over the precise management of the automatic coil warehouse. The integrated transport control system ensures optimized control of the automatic crane and the coil trolleys.
The integration of the coil transport trolleys into the safety-protected area of the automatic crane (which transport material to Manufacturing and residual material back to the warehouse) completes the integration of the new automatic crane warehouse into the existing infrastructure.
