Vehicle positioning and tracking / differential GPS

We use differential GPS for vehicle positioning and tracking in outdoor warehouse areas.

The DGPS system (Differential Global Positioning System) offers a much higher, location related precision than the GPS system. With this, the position of an appropriately equipped vehicle can be determined precisely to within a few centimetres. For this purpose, the DGPS system works with a stationary reference station, whose coordinates are known precisely. This reference station contains a GPS receiver, which determines the differences between the measured distances to the satellites, and the actual target values. In such a DGPS system the reference station forms a new reference position for a dedicated local area.

The difference values are transmitted as correction signals via the network and/or WLAN to the GPS receiver in the individual vehicles, which decode these and consider them in their position calculation.
